Transparency and responsible handling of health data in remote patient monitoring applications
We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the TESTER project, conducted in collaboration with Fraunhofer IAO, the University of Stuttgart, and the University of Kassel. The project was funded by VDI and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and had a clear goal: to enable users of telemedicine applications to gain insight into their collected data and understand its purposes. This was aimed at creating transparency and security while making it easier for users to exercise their rights to data access and revocation directly through the application.
Integration into our API-First Platform
The module for data transparency developed during the project has been successfully integrated into our API-first Digital Enablement Platform. As a result, the outcomes of the research project are now directly available to our partners and users, contributing to the safe and transparent use of telemedicine applications.
Key features of the new Data Privacy module:
Simple Visualization of Collected Data and Its Purposes
Users are provided with an intuitive representation, significantly improving the comprehensibility of data usage.
Settings for Data Privacy Preferences
Individual privacy settings can be adjusted flexibly.
Automated Exercise of Data Subject Rights and Revocation
Users can easily and quickly exercise their rights directly from within the application.
Expansion of the module: Consent Management for Medical Institutions
Building on the results of the TESTER project, we have expanded the module with functionalities for comprehensive consent management tailored specifically to the needs of medical institutions. This ensures structured and legally secure management of patient consents.
Follow up project in planning
The total budget for the project was €1,580,000. We sincerely thank our partners for the excellent collaboration, inspiring communication, and commitment that contributed to the project's success. The results and insights gained form a solid foundation for future developments.
We are particularly pleased that a follow-up project is already being considered for the coming year, paving the way for even greater transparency and user-friendliness in handling health data.
With TESTER, we have taken an important step toward responsible handling of health data and demonstrated how innovations can be directly implemented into practice. We remain excited about future developments and look forward to continuing to contribute to the digitization of healthcare.
